How to Survive Your First Semester in a University
So, here are some tips to ace your first semester at university.
Search About University
After deciding which university you are going the number one step is to stalk the university. Go to the website of the university and read all the content the university has to offer. Their student policy, about us, sports, campus environment, faculty, past events, and everything you find interesting. After going through all these things you will have an idea of how your university works and what to expect from it.
Reach out to some seniors
This is the era of social media. we are all connected in some way or another. These apps like Facebook, Instagram, tweeter, and LinkedIn, etc. made all the jobs so easy. To reach out to someone were never been so easy before. So look for the alumnus or the student of your university. Respectfully, message them and ask about all your doubts. This will help build your mindset and clear your confusion.
Don't hast to make friends
I know humans are social animals and we tend to find familiar faces everywhere we go. instead to make new friends on the very first day, I would advise meeting and sitting with the whole class. Socialize, get to know everyone. Eventually, the right people will come to you. I know in the start, one thinks it is impossible to make new friends but trust me all the things will start to make sense.
Listen to lectures carefully
Lectures are very crucial. Teachers also understand that you are freshers and sometimes they give you very important advice too. so keep your ears always open. Also, do not miss lectures, even if they are boring what if you understand even one thing. and believe me, it would be more than enough. Ask questions and participate in the discussion. Remember that, you are here to learn and so do your class fellows. This will also build confidence in yourself.
Explore the campus
Don't just go to university and sit in the class the whole day. Take a friend and go see the whole campus. even if you don't get a friend, explore the university yourself. See people and if possible make new friends on the way. check out the notice boards. They contain all the important announcements. You should know the route to café, sports area, common rooms, and even other departments and even shortcuts to them in case of you running late to class or something. This is your university now, you should know all the routes and best spots. Every day sit at the new spot and admire the beauty of your campus.
Do assignments and projects yourself
This is very crucial for your grades for the semester. Try to do all your work yourself. it is better for your personal growth. also, what is the purpose of all of your education if you do not learn to work with honesty? Also, this will help you in the long run when you start preparing for your mid and finals. However, if you are stuck somewhere, you can always take help from your friends, instructors, and seniors. But copy-paste would never be an option in your life.
Trust the Process
Do not overwhelm yourself with the academic workload and all your social life. Take a balance between both lives. Neither becomes a bookworm nor an idiot. God has better plans for you. don't take too much stress and enjoy every moment.
In the end, we all are in this together. So, stay positive and enjoy every moment of your beautiful life.
